ABOUT
lattner's Balance, for the accurate determination of very small weights, used
as part of his portable collection of apparatus for the quantitative assay of gold, silver, ores of copper, lead, &c, by the blowpipe. Length of beam 6J inches; power to carry I gramme, and show Tv milligramme : that is to say, to carry 15 grains, and turn with ■fo-th of a grain. With a set of gramme weights. The whole arranged in cavities, cut in two boards that are hinged together, and form, when shut up, a base for the support of the balance. £4.

436. Balance with a brass beam 12 inches long, in a mahogany box, with a support
adapted to the top of the box. The pans rest on the box, and are moved by a lever. Will carry 1,000 grains in each pan, and turn with A- grain : with 300 grains, it shows Tlo grain. The beam is divided into ten parts from the fulcrum to the end, for a rider. With a set of weights from 500 grains to Tv grain. £5 15s. 6d. r 33.
