Wiffle Hurling

2005–2011  ·  24 performances

Players in red and yellow shirts run across a green field holding yellow wiffle bats, with a ball in the air, in front of a large concrete building and bare trees

Wiffle Hurling is the game that started it all. Putting together this newly thought up sport was so inherently fun and creative that it spawned a new vision of how to play sport: continue to invent new sports to tap into the artistic core of physical play.

Wiffle Hurling is a variation of the Irish sport of hurling, where all wood and hard leather objects are replaced by light plastic, thereby drastically reducing injury and tooth loss! It has been played many times, been featured on Japanese TV, and been on the front page of the New York Times (web version!). Moreover, many an Irishman has made disparaging comments about it on YouTube as a blasphemy to their national sport. Through and through it is the sport most dear to our heart, and a damn fun sport as well.

Numbered editions have been played in New York, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Chicago, Bristol and Vilnius, among other places. A 2008 variation, Wiffle Hurling MV, added musical instruments: every field player carries one, and the goalies defend with them.
