Bosch On Ice

2008  ·  1 performance

People in costumes sprawl and slide across an indoor ice rink, one pulling a blue sled, with a hockey goal and scoreboard behind them

Bosch on Ice is a new ice sport derived from Hieronymus Bosch’s painting The Garden of Delights. The game is based on ice hockey with some significant exceptions: each period is based on a panel of the painting — The Garden, Earth, and Hell. Three sepak takraw balls are used in place of a puck, and each character has particular game abilities.

The game was played once at an ice rink in suburban New Jersey in 2008, where, like the painting, it accurately represented the fall of man and descended into utter chaos. It has yet to be played again!
